IR(A)

instrument rating for flights under IFR conditions

Instrument rating certifies the holder to fly under IFR conditions on single or multi-engine aircraft depending on the type of course undertaken. Our courses for acquiring IR qualification come with the following options:

  • Single engine aircraft (IR-SEP)
  • Simulator / single engine aircraft (FNPT II / IR-SEP)
  • Multi-engine aircraft (IR-MEP)
  • Simulator / multi-engine aircraft (FNPT II / IR-MEP)
  • Single-engine /multi-engine aircraft conversion (IR-SEP / IR-MEP) for IR-SEP holders

Applicants for any IR qualification must have a valid PPL(A) or CPL(A) pilot licence, NIGHT qualification, have successfully completed an aviation English examination at the Civil Aviation Authority (ÚCL) with a level of general English at LEVEL 4 ICAO and a valid 2nd class health approval.

Applicants must successfully complete an approved theoretical course for IR(A) of at least 200 hours. The practical part of the teaching is comprised of 50 – 55 hours (according to choice of qualification, IR/SEP or IR/MEP), undertaken only on an aircraft or in combination with a simulater depending on the type of course chosen. Students can complete the theory exam while practical training is still underway. The exam is taken at ÚCL in Prague. The practical part can be undertaken on successful completion of the theory examination. This part lasts approx 60 – 90 minutes and must be taken with an examiner from the Civil Aviation Authority.
